Solution:eng504 assignment

Scaffolds help students build on prior knowledge and internalize new information. The goal of the educator when using the scaffolding teaching strategy is for the student to become an independent and self-regulating learner and problem solver. Scaffolding refers to providing contextual supports for meaning through the use of simplified language, teacher modeling, visuals and graphics, cooperative learning and hands-on learning. The teacher of second language learners has to facilitate that support. Besides having more chances of landing a good job or advancing in your career, learning a second language can also give you an insight into other cultures. You will be more prepared and confident to travel the world and explore other people's ways of living. Lack of integration is a real problem for most countries.

Vygotsky's scaffolding is a theory that focuses on a student's ability to learn information through the help of a more informed individual. When used effectively, scaffolding can help a student learn content they wouldn't have been able to process on their own. Scaffolding not only allows workers to reach taller heights, it also provides a better position to work on walls, ceilings, outdoor spaces and windows. Scaffolding offers a sturdy, solid structure, so there are less risks than there would be with a ladder for example.

In addition to facilitating learning, the scaffolds:

1) Motivate the child's interest related to the task.

2) Simplify the task to make it more manageable and achievable for a child.

 3) Help the child focus on achieving the goal.

4) Clearly indicate differences between the child's work and the standard or desired solution.

5) Reduce frustration and risk. 6) Model and clearly define the expectations of the activity to be performed.
